History Of Photography
Composition
Rule of thirds
the rule of thirds is when you imagine there are 2 lines going across and two lines going down creating 9 boxes. this is useful for a photographer so that they can then place their subject in different cross section creating a more appealing photo.
Different composition
Composition is how you orientate your photo to make it more appealing.
SLR camera
The slr is a digital camera that has many different modes for the photographers different needs. These are modes like dark mode and portrait mode. But there are also other modes like P: standard setting, Tv: shutter priority and Av for changing the aperture.
Shutter Speed
What is shutter speed?: shutter speed is how fast your lens opens and closes whilst capturing light. with a high shutter speed you can get a very clear and crisp photo but with a low shutter speed you will get a more blurry photo.
Natsumi Hayashi: Natsumi Hayashi is from japan and is known for her high shutter speed and levitation photographs.
Here are some examples their work
I decided to give it a go
What went well: I managed to capture each photo on a 1/1000 of a second shutter speed. this made it easier to capture 'floating' shots.
Even better if: Unfortunately I accidentally had manual focus on so many of the pictures where blurred.
I managed to mend our errors and were left with much better looking photos.
Slow shutter speed.
This time we took photos in slow shutter speed. Inspired by Francesca Woodman, an American photographer who's work involves very low shutter speed. She was influenced by gothic genre. Here are some examples of her work.
Francesca woodman is an American photographer who specialises in slow shutter speed shots. only 120 of her photos have been published as of 2006. she often took pictures in derelict and old looking houses. Furthermore she doesn't have any names on her pictures and they are only known by date and where it was taken.
What went well: i managed to capture the photos in a slow shutter speed, capturing the essence of Francesca Woodman's work.
Even better if: The photos could have been better if i had managed to keep the camera still long enough to capture the photo with the background not blurred.
I then sent them to the photoshop
Here are the steps
I tried to fix my errors by having the subject more stationary and had the camera more straight.
Aperture
What is aperture?
Aperture is how wide open the lens is. So with a low aperture or F number much lower like 3.5 the picture will have barely any blurry points in the photo where as with a high aperture or a high F number like F20 the lens will be much smaller only getting the object in the foreground in focus. This is called depth of field.

First i to0k pictures with a high aperture of F3.5
I also took photos in F16, mid way.
Then I took some photos with a aperture speed F20
What went well: i managed to capture photographs in different aperture settings.
Even better if: i could have done better if when having a low f stop and having subjects farther away, managing to get them in focus.

Making an Andy Warhol picture
As you can see i tried to copy Andy Warhol work, and i think it turned out close to what he did.
Layers
I decided it would be a fun idea to create this photoshop. edited image to make the flowers really stand out. I think it turned out well.

Creating a Gif
What is a gif?
Well a gif is a series of images placed one after another and speed up to create a sense of a video.

Fist of all I had to set up my camera in a some what stable position having a good view of the many steps, which i then use later on for a great setting for my gif. Next i had my subject stand on the top step and i take a photograph. i then proceeded to do this over and over again until he reached the bottom. And then i changed my subject and repeated only the reverse this time. Finally, i uploaded the photos to gifmaker.me and make my photos into a gif. This process did not take long and i realised that making a gif is much easier than many people suspect.

To improve on my last attempt, i used a tripod so my Gif wasn't so shaky and unbalanced. Also i put my subject in front of a plane background to make the gif pop more and make it feel more sharp. Moreover i used Photoshop to create the gif this time and there are some step by steps below.
Photoshop step by step.
Gifmaker.me step by step
What went well: I managed to capture the photos rather steadily and edit them on photoshop.
Even better if: If i had the subjects more still in their shots.

Light painting
To begin, I set up my tripod and placed my camera upon it. Next I set my ISO to a very low setting (100) and my aperture high (22). Then I set my camera to bulb setting, which is where the lens will only close when you release your finger from the trigger button. After that I had someone hold down the trigger button and I walked around another person and dragged my torch through the air which in turn, after the trigger was released, showed the pattern I had drawn in the air with the torch. Finally I took some of my photos to photoshop and decreased the brightness and changed the contrast to really make the light stand out.
What went well: I managed to capture some light painting clearly
Even better if: I will have to make the camera more straight and capture less light behind the subject.
Michael Bosanko |
Welsh artist Michael Bosanko transforms landscapes such as the Brecon Beacons and desolate city scenes by using coloured torches like a paintbrush to create images. He then snaps the moving lights with a long-exposure camera and covers the lens with coloured acetate to produce different shades.

The presentation of your weebly is excellent and demonstrates excellent understanding of composition and layout. Please also make sure that all the images shown are in focus and bright enough there are a few images that could be replaced.
Your Aperture work is excellent and demonstrates your strong understanding of photographic technique. Your photoshop work is good and shows a developing understanding of photoshop technique however you need to upload your giffs that are in focus as mentioned above they look a little soft in their focus.
Double check all of your explanations to ensure that you explain tasks and processes thoroughly. You also need to expand your analysis of the artists going more in depth about their visual practice and how it relates to your work.
Continue to experiment and practice the techniques introduced during foundation. Make sure to persevere with tasks until you get the required outcome.
